Professor Milenko Kreća obtained his MA and PhD (LLD) degrees cum laude from the Faculty of Law, University of Belgrade. Upon graduation, he practiced law as an attorney (1973–1974). Professor Kreća was a Full-time Professor of International Public Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Belgrade, where he was Head of Department of International Law and International Relations (1997–2015). During his rich academic and expert career, Professor Kreća was President of the Scientific Council for Legal and Political Sciences at Belgrade University (1999–2014), as well as member of the Federal Commission for Harmonization of Federal Republic of Yugoslavia Law with the Laws of EU, EC and WTO (1998–2000), and legal advisor to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government and President of the Republic of Serbia and Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. He has been Arbitrator of the Permanent Arbitration at the Commercial Chamber of the Republic of Serbia (2000–) and in a number of cases as legal expert in the proceedings before Permanent Court of Arbitration, where he also served as a member (2013–2017). Professor Kreća is judge ad hoc before the International Court of Justice (1993–) in the cases concerning application of the Convention of the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, as well as before the European Court of Human Rights. He also was a member of the Venice Commission (2013–2019). Professor Kreća is President of the Serbian International Criminal Law Association (2002–) and President of the Serbian Association of International Law (2013–). He authored numerous books, articles and monographs.
