H.E. Mr. Johan Frisell, Deputy-Director General and Head of the Department for European Security Policy at the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs gave a lecture “Sweden and the new security situation in Europe” for IIPE researchers and representatives of academic community.
Mr. Frisell referred to the new global security surrounding, as a result of the Russia – Ukraine war sterted in February 2022, as well as the consequences it had on Kingdom of Sweden as a country with a long tradition of neutrality. Mr. Frisell pointed out that Sweden’s intention to join NATO isn’t only a reflection of the desire to increase its own security, but also the desire to improve the security of all neighbouring countries which feel threatened. In concluding remarks, Ambassador Frisell emphasized that the conflict in Ukraine exposed the vulnerability of European states and societies, especially in the field of energy and cyber security, as well as the fight against disinformation.
