Serbia in Contemporary International Relations
The IIPE research team implemented project “Serbia in Contemporary International Relations: Strategic Development and Firming the Position of Serbia in the Process of International Integration – Foreign Policy, Economic, Legal and Security Perspectives”, in period 2011-2019. This research project was one of the most important pillars of fundamental research activities in the field of international relations conducted by the Institute of International Politics and Economics.
The project was aimed at conducting research on changes and trends in international relations that gradually lead to transformation of the international community into a more integrated system for management of various global processes — from maintaining world peace and security to connecting national economies into a globalised system and building new legal regimes. The research embraced wide scope of inquiry including political, legal, military and security, economic, technological and social factors determining Serbia’s foreign policy, as well as its international legal, economic and security position in international relations. The focus was on theoretical and empirical studies of strategic level of foreign policy and the consolidation of Serbia’s international position in international integration in the medium term until 2015 and in the long term until 2030, respectively. Due to a plethora of plausible approaches in the study of the Serbia’s position in international relations, we divided the research project in six thematic fields: 1) Serbia in contemporary international relations; 2) Serbia in contemporary European surroundings; 3) Serbia in contemporary security surroundings; 4) Serbia in contemporary regional surroundings; 5) Serbia in contemporary economic surroundings; 6) Serbia in contemporary international legal order. The research project is designed to serve as a conceptual foundation of Serbia’s foreign policy based on an enhanced participation in global and regional politics, and progress towards EU accession.
The project manager was Dr Duško Dimitrijević.
The project was financially supported by the Serbian Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development.
The Project was registered under No. 179029.
Impact of the EU conditionality on minority rights and protection in Slovakia and Serbia
The Institute of International Politics and Economics implemented the joint project “Impact of the EU conditionality on minority rights and protection in Slovakia and Serbia” with Comenius University, Bratislava, from January 2011 to March 2013.
The project was aimed at examining the opportunities/limits that international organisations and other international actors have/face in promoting the international norms and standards of minority protection. The research was focused on comparative analysis of the minority policy implementation in Slovakia and Serbia, and how the EU conditionality policy impacts the decision of domestic political actors to comply or not to comply with international norms. These two countries were chosen as they constitute different cases with diverse interaction between domestic and international actors; Slovakia is one of the key examples of the success of the EU conditionality policy.
The project managers were Prof. Darina Malová and Dr Dragan Đukanović.
The project was funded by Ministry of Science of the Republic of Slovakia and Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Serbia within the framework of bilateral programmes of academic cooperation.
