During his visit to the Republic of Serbia, Mr. Majid Takht-Ravanchi, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran for Political Affairs, delivered a lecture at the Institute of International Politics and Economics titled “Iran’s Foreign Policy: Challenges and Opportunities; The Role of the Balkans and Western Asia in Regional and International Peace and Stability”.

In his presentation, Mr. Takht-Ravanchi reflected on Iran’s Neighborhood Policy and emphasized the country’s commitment to fostering good neighborly relations and cooperation. Relations between Iran and Serbia were described as traditionally good and friendly. He also pointed out opportunities for enhancing cooperation between the two countries.

Mr. Takht-Ravanchi paid special attention to the nuclear issue, stressing that Iran’s nuclear program is intended solely for peaceful purposes and that the talks with China, Russia and three European countries are already underway. The Deputy Foreign Minister highlighted the importance of diplomacy in Iran’s foreign policy, particularly pointing out Iran’s readiness for reaching an agreemeent through dialogue based on mutual trust. Iran does not accept coercion in any form and, referring to indirect nuclear talks between Iran and the United States, Mr. Takht-Ravanchi stressed that agreement is possible if the American side sets aside intimidation and threats.

The lecture was attended by members of the diplomatic corps and researchers from the Institute of International Politics and Economics.
