At the invitation of the Hungarian Institute of International Affairs, MA Stefan Bošković, IIPE research assistant, spoke at a panel discussion on the topic: “Danube connections, security, infrastructure and the future of the Western Balkans”. MA Bošković emphasized that the Danube region is significant for Serbia’s foreign policy, primarily because it provides Belgrade with an opportunity for more intensive sectoral cooperation with the member states of the European Union. Amidst Serbia’s interstate relations with Hungary and Austria, colleague Bošković pointed out the positive dynamics, with a forecast for further development of cooperation based on common points in security and energy, especially regarding Belgrade and Budapest. When asked about the accession of Serbia and the Western Balkans to the European Union, Bošković emphasized the existence of a geopolitical moment in this process, and that it is up to regional actors and Brussels to seize the existing opportunity.
