Blagoje Simov Babić was born in 1937 in Selište – Plana, Bileća, Herzegovina. He finished elementary school in Plana, and junior high school in Vajska (Bačka) and Bileća. He studied high school in Trebinje, Bileća, Odžaci and Novi Sad. He graduated from the Faculty of Law in Belgrade, where he obtained the title of Magister of Legal Sciences. He received the title of Doctor of Economic Sciences at the Faculty of Economics in Sarajevo. He became a full professor of international finance at the Faculty of Economics in Mostar.
He completed European studies at the University Institute for European Studies in Turin. He was specialized in the theory and policy of economic development at the Institute for the Development of Southern Italy in Rome and the Central Bank for Economic Cooperation in Paris.
He was a member of the Scientific Society of Economists of Yugoslavia and president of the Court of Honor of that society, as well as the Association of Economists of Yugoslavia and the Yugoslav Association for Public Law. Since their foundation, he has been a member of two international associations – the Delphi Forum (Athens and Paris) and the European Association for Evolutionary Political Economy (Cambridge, Great Britain). He has published several books and a large number of scientific works, a significant number of which are in foreign languages. He is the creator and first editor of the journal “European Legislation”, the youngest scientific journal of the Institute of International Politics and Economics.
From the beginning until the end of his working life, he was employed at the Institute of International Politics and Economics in Belgrade. With his results in scientific work, he left an indelible mark on the Institute, which in 2022 awarded him its highest award – the “Big Plaquette”. He left an even deeper mark on generations of researchers who had the honor of consulting him on many scientific and countless life challenges.
His spirit will always be remembered.
