H. e. Mr. Akira Imamura, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Serbia, held a lecture “Security policy of Japan and cooperation with Serbia”, under the auspices of the Ambassadorial Forum.
Mr. Imamura pointed out the guiding principles of Japan’s foreign and security policy, such as the rule of law, promotion of human security, respect for diversity, and inclusiveness. He also emphasized the pressing security threats and challenges in the East Asia region, to which Japan is striving to respond with internal policies, but also through active participation in bilateral and multilateral cooperation formats. Finally, support for the socio-economic reforms of the Western Balkans countries towards the EU accession process was particularly stressed, taking into account Japan’s strategic partnership with the EU.
The lecture was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps, representatives of the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, members of the academic community, as well as researchers and Winter School students from the Institute of International Politics and Economics.
