Professor Rudy Baker of Austin Peay University, Clarksville, Tennessee, currently on study stay at the Institute, for the IIPE researchers and students of Winter School gave a lecture “International Criminal Law in the Context of the War in Ukraine”.
During the lecture he addressed the general definition of international criminal law, and particularly genocide as international criminal act. He analysed judgments of international criminal tribunals for former Yugoslavia and Rwanda and opened the question of the presence of genocidal elements in the alleged war crime in Bucha during the war in Ukraine in 2022. The lecture was followed by an interesting discussion, in which both the IIPE researchers and Winter School students took part.
