Colonel Dr. Miroslav Glišić, Senior Military Adviser in the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Serbia to the United Nations, gave an online lecture “New NATO Strategic concept – transferring political rhetoric into practice”.
Dr. Glišić put NATO Strategic concept which was adopted in June this year in theoretical and historical context, aiming to point to the challenges to its transfer into practice. While previous post-Cold War concepts, which focused on crisis management, failed to be applicable because NATO has not solved any crisis, the new one brings back the focus on Cold War-like deterrence and defense. Will it succeed depends on the strength of Russian and Chinese challenges, as well as on dealing with conditions of global interdependence. Dr. Glišić estimates that the next NATO strategic concept will move its focus further from Russia onto China.
